Ivana Trump: ‘I am glad Melania is there and I am here’ – The Hill

Ivana Trump, President Trump’s first wife, said she is glad Melania Trump is in Washington instead of her amid a tiff over who gets to call herself the first lady.

“I am glad Melania is there and I am here,” Ivana Trump says interview set to air Tuesday morning on “Fox & Friends.”

“Washington is [a] tough, tough town,” she said, adding that she turned down an offer to serve as an American ambassador to her native Czech Republic because the role would make her “lose” her freedom.

The new remarks come after Ivana Trump jokingly called herself the “first lady” since she was the president’s first wife in an interview Monday, a remark that had first lady Melania Trump’s office bristling.

“I have the direct number to White House, but I no really want to call him there because Melania is there,” Ivana told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Monday.

“I don’t want to cause any kind of jealousy or something like that because I’m basically first Trump wife,” she continued.

Melania Trump’s spokeswoman slammed the remarks as “self-serving noise.”

“She plans to use her title and role to help children, not sell books,” the spokeswoman said in a statement. “There is clearly no substance to this statement from an ex. Unfortunately only attention seeking and self-serving noise.”
