How do you follow Furious 7, a movie that had cars parachuting out of a plane? Apparently with a giant submarine and wrecking ball.

The first trailer for The Fate of the Furious, or F8, the newest installment in the family-oriented, car-obsessed Furious franchise, made its debut Sunday night at a fan event that took over Times Square. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who appeared at the New York unveiling with other stars from the movie, said on Facebook Live, “What we are presenting in this movie is a lot of things … that will make a lot of people uneasy.” Vin Diesel added, “You are about to see a movie that you’re not prepared for.”

What were the actors hinting at? Probably that the movie has Dom (Diesel) turning on his loved ones, because he’s been seduced by a new character played by Charlize Theron. “Did you ever think you’d betray your family the way you did today?” Theron’s unknown character asks in the trailer. Later, she kisses Dom in front of Letty (Michelle Rodriguez). “Dominic Toretto just turned on us,” says Hobbs (Johnson).

The trailer has everything you’d expect from a Furious film: massive stunt sequences (there’s a submarine that emerges from the arctic waters to knock over cars, a wrecking ball that smashes a line of vehicles and five cars tethered to each other), an angry Hobbs (Johnson yells, “I will beat you like a Cherokee drum,” and takes on several prison inmates), new locations (the film goes from New York City to the Barents Sea) and fancy vehicles (hello, orange Lamborghini and tank).

Johnson aptly described the footage this way: “It’s just big, cool, fun and epic.”

Stars Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jason Statham, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky and Kurt Russell all return for the movie. The Fate of the Furious arrives in theaters April 14.
