Lupe Fiasco Explains Why He Is ‘Officially Not Releasing Any More Music’ – Yahoo Music

Earlier this week, Lupe Fiasco was flagged for hate speech on SoundCloud for a controversial line on his “N.E.R.D.” freestyle in which he said: “Artists getting robbed for their publishing by dirty Jewish execs who think it’s alms from the covenant.”

Attempting to defend himself against those who viewed his remarks an act of anti-Semitism, Fiasco tweeted, “I didn’t called them dirty becuz they were Jewish I called them dirty becuz their horrible f***ng human beings.” Then, clearly frustrated, Fiasco typed, “I get the hint God. Yo Lupe fans it’s been fun and I hope you’ve had fun. I’m officially not releasing anymore music. Albums cancelled.”
Now, at a show, he’s explained more about his desire to quit the industry, fed up with what he sees as unfair treatment to artists by greedy music executives.

“I never really got along with rappers and I always hated music executives,” Fiasco said. “They were always big pieces of shit to me. I hated them. When I learned that the music industry was a shitty, shitty place to be, I quit. I actually quit like nine years ago. I was done.”

“You guys have done so much for me. You’ve allowed me to send my sisters to private school,” he continued. But then he added, “I want you to be clear about our relationship. I don’t do music for you, I do music for me.” So, it appears the fun in music has dried up for Fiasco, so his plans of releasing more material are no more—for now at least. This isn’t the first time he’s played around with the idea of retirement.
